Cyprus is blessed with natural landscapes and you can choose a seaside retreat or a mountain area with its crisp fresh air and beautiful scenery. Most of the camping sites are organized and have amenities but some are off the beaten track with no extras except the luxury of sleeping under the stars in a unique spot. All you need is a tent and some supplies and a small fee to enjoy the great outdoors. The campsites of Polis in Paphos and the Troodos campsite in the mountains are the most popular sites. These are available from spring to October and they are completely different as the one is by the sea is surrounded by eucalyptus trees and the other at 1600 meters above sea level is in the pine trees perched on the Troodos Mountains. These are organized sites and they offer basic facilities such as potable water, barbeque sites, benches, tables and washrooms. The Forestry Department has developed these sites and they are continuously improving the facilities so that more people can enjoy the great outdoors that Cyprus has to offer. Polis Chrysochous Campsite - Paphos District
This camping site is situated within the state forest land and managed by an agency. It is a site which is right on the crystal clear waters of the Mediterranean and surrounded by a eucalyptus grove. The camping site is just 1 km from Polis town and offers sandy pebbled beaches with water sports, sun beds and umbrellas available on site for hire. This site has toilets, showers and washroom facilities. Platania Campsite - Troodos (Nicosia District)
Managed by the Forestry Department, this campsite is located 5 km from Kakopetria just before the Platania forest station. This is a well-organized camping site with 18 toilet and showers, kitchen facilities, tables and accessibility for disabled persons. There is a big children play area and a canteen on the premises. Stavros tis Psokas Campsite - Paphos Forest
This campsite is managed by the Forestry Department and can accommodate up to 60 tents and 7 caravans for a total of 150 persons. Situated about 20 kilometers from Lyssos and Kannaviou villages, the site is near the Stavros tis Psokas fire station which is situated in the middle of the Paphos forest. This is one of the most beautiful pine forests on the island and is a short 50 kilometer drive from Paphos town. This site is 900 meters above sea level and provides a hostel and cafeteria with an organized picnic area. Costs are from €2 per day for tents and €5 for caravans. Kambi tou Kaloyirou Campsite - Troodos (Limassol District)
Also managed by the Forestry Department this camping site is only 3 km from Prodromos and is located in the Limassol district. Situated in the centre of the Troodos Mountains, this beautiful location is 1540 meters above sea level and has outstanding scenery. Charges are €2 per person, per day. Although this campsite is situated in the state forest land, it is managed by other agencies. The site is just before the Troodos square and is open from May until the end of October. Governor’s Beach Kalymnos Campsite (Limassol District)
For those who prefer to camp on the beach, this is the ideal site. Just 20 km east from Limassol this location can accommodate 230 caravans and 247 tents. This site has toilet facilities as well as showers. You will also find a coin operated laundromat and dryers on the premises. There is a restaurant and supermarket which are open in the summer months and the campsite is open all the year round. Charges are €3.40 per tent plus €2.55 per person per night. Akamas Peninsula - Baths of Aphrodite Entrance (Paphos District)
This has to be the ultimate location for a camping site as it is unspoiled and very picturesque. The only negative is that it is an unorganized site so you will not have any facilities. You will get into the park from the Baths of Aphrodite entrance and experience the beauty of this nature park which is situated on the North West tip of Cyprus. There are secluded sandy bays in this area and flora and fauna to discover in their natural habitat. There are no contact numbers for this site and you can drive there whenever you please, summer months being the best time of the year. Note that you might need a 4x4 as the area has sand roads and steep cliffs.
